As faithful as adidas is to its catalogue of icons, one thing it excels at is experimentation — and calling the XZ 0006 experimental is an understatement. As you can probably tell from the name, it’s a deconstructed twist on the ZX 6000, just like 2020’s Inside Out from the A-ZX pack. What should be providing structure and padding within — think exposed foam and skeleton-like translucent panelling — is instead layered across the mesh upper for a look reminiscent of early prototypes. It’s still recognisable as the retro runner, though, thanks to its contrasting three stripes, distinctive heel counter and that famous Torsion-stabilised sole unit.
