New Look Tops: What to Buy for Work, Weekend and Out
This is the deepest category in the range, which makes it the hardest to shop. The edit groups what is in stock by where you would actually wear it, and flags the fabrics that behave and the ones that do not.

The buyer's brief
How to choose
Fabric decides how a top wears through a day. Everything else is styling.
Fabric for the day
Cotton and fine knit survive a working day. Satin and chiffon crease from the moment you sit down. Neither is wrong, but they are not interchangeable.
Bust fit on shirts
Check where the buttons land rather than the size on the label. A well placed placket at your size beats a size up with a gap in the wrong place.
Layering thickness
If it goes under a blazer, fine gauge only. Anything chunkier changes the shoulder line of the jacket.
Sleeve length
Full length sleeves extend a summer top into autumn. Short sleeves under a cardigan do the same job with more flexibility.
Care
Anything satin, embellished or pleated is a hand wash or dry clean. Cotton and jersey are not. Check before you buy if laundry time matters.
Colour under light
Office lighting flattens white and greys out pale pink. If a top is for work rather than weekends, check it under something other than daylight before deciding.
Neckline and necklaces
A high neck and a pendant fight each other. If you wear the same jewellery daily, buy necklines that leave it room rather than buying around it later.
Good to know
Answered
Fine gauge knits, plain shirts and simple camis. Anything with a thick collar or a puff sleeve fights the jacket shoulder and loses.
